Ilifa Labantwana is a multi-donor partnership to support integrated early childhood development (ECD).  Ilifa labantwana means ‘Children’s Heritage’ in isiXhosa and is also translated into isiZulu and seSotho respectively as ‘Ifa Lezingane’ and ‘Lefa La Bana’.

This donor partnership seeks to support national scale-up of priority early childhood interventions in under-served communities through:

• Demonstrating and costing the provision of non-centre based early childhood development services;
• Monitoring and evaluating the process and impact on child outcomes (psychosocial and cognitive) of models of non-centre-based provision;
• Supporting the development of a curriculum for ECD practitioners;
• Supporting the development of the emerging leadership within regional ECD training organisations across South Africa;
• Facilitating increased access to Government support;
• Upgrading the quality of sites of ECD provision; and
• Creating great public awareness to drive the demand for early childhood development.
