1  Early Childhood Development

This programme has as its focus the accredited ECD Resource and Training Organisations (RTOs) operating across South Africa. The programme excludes individual ECD sites. Indirectly the programme is geared at promoting a rights-based, nurturing, caring, safe and supportive environment for children under the age of 6 years. More….

2  Education

This programme has two primary focus areas:

  • improving reading and writing at all levels of the education system; and
  • laying a strong foundation for the acquisition of critical cognitive skills through Mathematics and the Sciences.

The DGMT has a bias towards the primary school level (research indicates that this is where good foundations are laid for further learning), but provides resources at all levels of the system. More….

3  Programme for a Winning Nation

This programme focuses on providing opportunities through existing service providers for people to maximise their potential and opportunities, and to enable them to become valued citizens who are able to contribute to creating an enabling environment in the country.

The intention of the programme is to provide access to higher order skills at, among others, tertiary education institutions as well as encouraging and rewarding entrepreneurial behaviour.  More….

4  Children and Youth

This programme aims to support holistic and integrated interventions that promote caring, safe and supportive environments for children and youth to develop within the rights framework defined in the World Declaration on the Survival, Protection and Development of Children and set out in the 54 articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which South Africa ratified in 1995 as well as the Children’s ActMore….

5  Conservation and the Environment

This programme focuses on broader environmental issues such as climate change, eco-tourism, environmental awareness and education, but in particular, how these issues impact on poor communities, with a bias towards rural areas. This programme provides real opportunities for integrated development towards sustainable livelihoods.  More….

6  Philanthropy

The DGMT actively seeks to work with organisations that provide innovative and creative solutions to the issues and challenges faced by those excluded from mainstream society. This programme would focus on those largely excluded, that is, the unemployed, homeless, the sick, people (including children) living with disabilities, and the aged in South African communities.
